The TeTo Electronic Tuning Fork/ ETF Wellness Test is based on proven medical hearing principles of air and bone conduction. It was first done with manual tuning forks in the late 1700. The very same principle is still used today in primary medical care, by audiologists, ear specialists, hearing aid dispensers, schools, industrial and military hearing conservation programs, workers compensation, insurance claims for disability assessment, testing for cognitive ability in dementia and Alzheimers and in children for hearing screening, speech and language assessments and home wellness hearing screening tests and advanced diagnostic assessments for ear surgery.

Originally the manual tuning fork was used to test for a hearing loss in the outer or middle ear due to a blockage. A manual tuning fork test is difficult to control but in 1795, Weber reported being able to use a manual tuning fork to diagnose a blocked ear which is one of the main causes of hearing problems and often due to wax or fluid in the ear and other diseases of the ear.

How do we hear?

We can hear by both air conduction and/or bone-conducted sound as it travels to the inner ear and then to the brain.

Air conduction is the sound travelling into the ear through the ear canal, eardrum, middle ear and then on to the inner ear, this is mainly how we hear a sound.

Bone conduction is sound that travels directly to the inner ear through the bones of the head bypassing the outer and middle ear conduction directly to the inner ear and to the brain.

By comparing the difference in how we hear in two methods can determine if the ear is blocked or not.
